Letter from the AHA President

08/19/08

By Randy Kanai

Hello all –

Well the summer is about over, school has started, and tryouts are right around the corner.  The Board has been busy during the off-season: especially the coaches committee, the golf committee, and finally the picnic committee.

The Annual Face Off picnic was last Wednesday, the 13th of August.  This traditionally marks the beginning to hockey season for Arvada.  We had several younger players dancing on the tables and having a great time after dinner.  The cooks were Rob Ash, Ryan Hellman, Graham Peper and Ben Schwenk.  Our Secretary, Lori Couch remembered to bring a camera and took several pictures.  Thanks to everyone for bringing side dishes and making this another success!

The 5th annual golf tournament fundraiser was held at Indian Tree golf course this past Friday.  The weather did not cooperate as well as we would have liked, but it sure seemed that everyone made the best of it knowing that 100% of the proceeds fund the scholarship program.  We all should give a huge thank you to all the donors, the organizing committee and support our tournament sponsors.  I have not heard the final results but the early tally is that we again achieved our fund raising goal for the 5th consecutive year.  The string of success we have had with the golf tournament is no accident, thank you to the entire organizing committee.

Finally, travel team tryouts begin this Saturday.  You will find the schedule and all the required forms on the Arvada website.  Prior to taking the ice for tryouts, the player must be registered and have completed and turned in the required forms including a copy of their birth certificate.  Keep and eye on the website, the overall process will remain unchanged with one exception, Kibby is defining the evaluation process in more detail and I think everyone will be pleased with the changes.  Travel team coaches have been named and you will find them on the website. I plan to be at the rink as much as possible during the tryout process, please find me if you have any questions or concerns.

I will close with a few key dates that have been established so far.
