Welcome to the Midget Minor A tryouts for the 2008-09 season.

Please review this letter prior to tryouts. The purpose of this letter to communicate expectations for any player and his/her family considering playing Minor Midget A this year.

1. Ice hockey is a team sport. The attached team values will apply to all players, coaches and parents through out the season. To the extent that we can, coaches will be looking for players that demonstrate this in tryouts - making and receiving passes, running drills/systems appropriately, being in the proper position, digging the puck out of the corners, supporting other players, etc.

2. Playing time is earned and not guaranteed to be equal. The goal is that every player be given an equal and fair opportunity to contribute to the success of the team. We will do our best to improve the skill and ability of each player on the team.

3. Team goals will be set at the beginning of the season and then re-visited and revised during the season if necessary. We will also set specific goals prior to games/scrimmages.

4. Individual Goals will be set by each player at the beginning of the season and assessed over the course of season.

5. Attendance at practices, team meetings and games are mandatory with the following exceptions; school events for a grade, sickness, religious events and family events or emergency. Players may also be in multiple sports at the beginning of the season and should discuss schedules with the coaches.

6. We will play in 3-6 tournaments during the season. The plan for now is;

     a. Early Bird at Arapahoe (September)
     b. Silver Sticks at Hyland (October)
     c. Vail Sportsmanship (November)
     d. We will look for a local tournament at Thanksgiving or take it off
     e. Christmas Holiday off
     f. We may look for a tournament in Jan. or Feb., one likely out of state.

7. Fundraising and fees - As a team we can discuss opportunities to raise money through fundraising and donations to offset fees, scrimmages and tournaments.

8. Good Luck during tryouts and please feel free to contact either of us with any questions or concerns.

Team Values

We Play Hard This individual embodies the team’s ‘never give up’ spirit and doesn’t stop pushing himself/herself. He/she is absolutely relentless in training and games and works as hard off of the puck as when he/she has it.

We Play Smart This individual works hard to understand the plays and systems required for each position on the team and does not take bad penalties. He/she understands that not every player can score at one time, but all players can contribute to the play.

We Play Together This is the kind of player that plays unselfishly by passing the puck, digging in the corners and creating opportunities for teammates. This is a non-judgmental, inclusive teammate that never says a negative thing about anyone and embraces everyone on the team.

We Have Fun Players, coaches and parents must always remember that we play the game because it is fun. We will always show respect for each other, our opponents, referees, the facilities we play in and will enjoy ourselves in all aspects of the game.

The Truly Extraordinary Do Something Everyday This individual has remarkable self-discipline, completes their homework, chores and does the dry land workout sheets from beginning to end without omission or substitution and every day has a plan to get better and eat healthy.

We Don’t Complain This individual can handle any situation and does not complain about anything on or off the ice.

When we don’t play as much as we would like we are Noble and Still Support the Team and it’s Mission The remarkably noble, self-sacrificing, generous individual always places the team before himself/herself.
